The Approach

Marsh Ridge, Number 1
The Marsh Ridge Golf Course bridges over 35 acres of unspoiled marshlands, with rolling hills and scenic vistas overlooking dramatic vertical drops. With tight fairways and carries over marshes and other assorted wetlands, you'll want to play a controlled game on this course. The first hole, a short par four, will teach you quickly that precise shots are the name of the game at Marsh Ridge.
Making The Big Shot

Marsh Ridge's General Manager, Dick Weber, offers the following advice in successfully meeting the challenge of this Northern Michigan Big Shot..

"Number one is a great warmup hole at Marsh Ridge. It is a fairly short par 4, dogleg left. What you want to do is place the ball down the fairway with a medium distance iron, perhaps a 5 wood for the ladies.

"Some big hitters like to go for the green and it can be done but it is a low percentage shot. The smart thing to do is to use this as a nice warm up hole and get the ball out there 150 yards or so and leave yourself with an easy wedge to the green.

"There is a trap to the right of the green and the hill slopes down into some trouble if you are long and left, so you will want to be very precise with your wedge to the green.
