Lake
Gogebic
is the
largest
lake
in
Upper
Michigan.
One of
the
Lake
Gogebic's
highlights
is the
fishing
for
walleye,
jumbo
perch,
northern
pike,
smallmouth
bass,
and
whitefish.
Based
on
recent
Michigan
DNR
records,
Lake
Gogebic
hosts
more
state
angler
awards
than
any
other
lake
in the
Upper
Peninsula
of
Michigan.
The
Lake
encompasses
13,800
acres
with
34.35
miles
of
beautiful
shoreline.
It is
between
20 to
30
feet
deep,
and
surrounded
by the
one
million
acre
Ottawa
National
Forest.
Various
fishing
contests
are
held
on the
Lake
including
the
monthly
Rod
and
Reel
contest
(during
the
summer
months),
a
tagged
fish
contest
(which
lasts
throughout
the
season)
and
several
ice
fishing
contests.
Prizes
totaling
thousands
of
dollars
are
awarded.
This
region
is
also a
prime
hunting
hot
spot
for
whitetail
deer,
black
bear,
duck
and
goose,
as
well
as
other
partridge
and
other
types
of
small
game.
The
activity
changes
in the
Winter
to
snowmobiling
on the
Lake.
Many
miles
of
groomed
trails
surround
the
Lake.
There's
also
downhill
skiing
nearby.
Lake
Gogebic
offers
the
perfect
place
for
those
on a
honeymoon,
vacationing
families
and
those
that
enjoy
the
outdoors.
With
many
fine
lodging
and
dining
facilities
surrounding
the
Lake
there's
always
plenty
of
indoor
fun as
well.
